Ericsson and Apple have been contesting the patent case for many years
Ericsson mentioned Friday that it has reached a worldwide patent licensing settlement with Apple, ending a dispute over licensing funds for the use of 5G Wi-Fi patents in iPhones.
STOCKHOLM: Ericsson mentioned on Friday that it has reached a worldwide patent licensing agreement with Apple, ending a dispute over licensing funds for the use of 5G Wi-Fi patents in iPhones.
The Swedish telecommunications tool maker mentioned that the multi-year agreement included international cross-licensing of patented, essential to mobile applied science standards and granted some various patent rights.
“The settlement ends all pending authorized patent litigation between the events,” the announcement said.
The deal comes after Ericsson in January filed a second set of patent infringement lawsuits against the US iPhone maker.
The two companies have already sued each other in the US after negotiations to renew a seven-year licensing contract for telecommunications patents first obtained in 2015 have failed.
Ericsson sued first in October 2021, alleging Apple tried to improperly minimize licensing fees. The iPhone maker then filed a lawsuit in December 2021, accusing the Swedish company of using a “strong hand” to renew the patents.
On Friday, Ericsson forecast fourth-quarter intellectual property rights (IPR) licensing revenue of SEK 5.5-5.0 billion (US$530.3-578.5 million) with settlement outcomes and ongoing intellectual property rights with various licensees.
