The former Chelsea striker has spoken out about recent rumors linking him with a return to the Blues, admitting that if Real Madrid want him to leave in the summer, they will “accept”.

Eden Hazard has effectively ruled out a return to Chelsea, saying he doesn’t understand why his return to Stamford Bridge is always being talked about.

The Belgium international is preparing for the World Cup in Qatar but has taken the time to discuss club matters, stating that he will leave Real Madrid in the summer if the LaLiga giants so wish.

Hazard has fought desperately to try and regain the form that made him so deadly in West London while in the Spanish capital. The 31-year-old has been at the Santiago Bernabéu since the summer of 2019, and yet he’s still lacking highlights in Real Madrid’s iconic white stripe.

In turn, this has triggered rumors that Hazard’s time at the club could be coming to an end, as manager Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly weighing the idea of cashing in on the former Lille player. The striker has since addressed those claims for the first time.

“In January it is impossible [leaving the club]Because I have a family and I like the city,” Hazard told Marca. “But in summer it is possible that I go. I have one more year on my contract and it’s the club’s decision.

“If the club tells me ‘Eden, thanks for four years, but you have to go’, I have to accept it because it’s normal. But I would like to play more, show more that I can play, that I am a good player.

“If Real Madrid tells me in the summer that I have to leave, I accept it.”

In the same discussion, Hazard also touched on persistent rumors linking him to a return to west London to ply his trade for Chelsea once more.

“Chelsea? I was never close to coming back or leaving Real Madrid in general. Chelsea have never called me, ”he admitted while talking about the last transfer window.

Hazard went further and even questioned why he would be linked to his former side of six years in the process. Why are there always links to Chelsea? No idea, honestly.

The Belgian international’s contract with Real Madrid doesn’t expire until the summer of 2024, so he has more than enough time to turn things around with the Whites.

By the time his contract expires, Hazard will be 33 and firmly in the twilight of his career, meaning he could be short of potential suitors if Real Madrid choose not to extend him.

Hazard went so far as to question why he would be associated with his former side of six years in the process. Why are there always Chelsea references? Honestly, I have no idea.”
