D’Banj is released from CIPC custody

Nigerian pop star, Mr. Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, also known as D’Banj, has finally regained his freedom from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

The musician was detained by the anti-corruption agency on Tuesday after he previously failed to comply with invitations to explain allegations that he diverted funds intended to pay beneficiaries of a federal government social investment program, N-Power.

The initiative was launched on June 8, 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari to address youth unemployment and empowerment issues and help increase social development.

It was alleged that the artist brought some phantom beneficiaries into the program and funds were found in bank accounts linked to him.

After spending three nights with ICPC, he has been released on a self-recognition basis and will be asked to be available as needed as the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.

D’Banj began enjoying stardom in the 2000s when he teamed up with prolific music producer Don Jazzy to form the now-defunct Mo’Hits Records. The duo parted ways years later to continue their separate projects.
