Manchester United’s preparations for the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie with Atletico Madrid have been disrupted after Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw tested positive for COVID-19.
Fernandes was already ruled out of Manchester United‘s victory over Tottenham on Saturday after contracting the illness.
Ralf Rangnick has stated that he will have to wait to see if Fernandes can be available for the Old Trafford clash on Tuesday evening.
Fernandes has scored nine goals and he has registered 14 assists in all competitions this season, so his absence would be a significant blow for Rangnick‘s side.
Meanwhile, Shaw is also a doubt to face Diego Simeone‘s side as a result of COVID-19.
“Luke [Shaw] hopefully will be back in training Monday and Bruno [Fernandes] we will have to wait and see until Tuesday,” Rangnick said.
“This will probably be a last-minute race with him – due to COVID-19.”
No COVID-19 concerns with De Gea
David de Gea was initially ruled out of the Spurs fixture after testing positive for COVID-19, but he started in goal after subsequently returning a negative test.
Midfielder Scott McTominay was unavailable to face Spurs after sustaining a calf injury, but he could return to the starting XI on Tuesday evening.
