AS WELL ASBritish bank Barclays is frozen Chelseaaccounts and have temporarily suspended their credit cards due to sanctions imposed by UK government to the owner of the club Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea can neither sign new players nor renew the contracts of any member of his team. In addition, they will not be allowed to profit from merchandising and ticket sales.

The club has received special permission from the UK government to continue operating and paying its staff, pending confirmation as to whether Barclays can allow Chelsea to withdraw money without violating UK sanctions.

This has put Chelsea in a very sticky position as many of the club’s staff are not allowed to use their Barclays cards, in addition to the fact that the club is unable to pay salaries as they do not have access to those accounts.

Chelsea are confident that the situation will improve soon and believe that the government will allow them to negotiate the sale of the club in the near future.

Under the UK government’s ruling, Chelsea will only be able to spend £500,000 on food, security and cleaning for home games, in addition to only season ticket holders and those who bought tickets before March 10 will be able to attend.
