Burmese ‘democratic government’ commemorates anniversary of Rohingya massacre

The so-called Government of National Unity (NUG), made up of pro-democracy politicians and activists opposed to the military junta, commemorated the “heinous crimes” committed against the Rohingya minority four years ago by the Burmese army.

On 25 August 2017, the Burmese army launched a campaign against the Rohingya in response to the attack by the Rohingya insurgents which resulted in thousands of deaths, rapes, house fires and the flight of more 700,000 members of this Muslim community to Bangladesh
