Bolton Wanderers will face Manchester United under-21s in the round of 16 of the Papa Johns Trophy on the same day as a World Cup semi-final.
The Whites secured their place in the next round of the competition with a 3-2 win over Barrow last Tuesday night. Goals from Dapo Afolayan, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Elias Kachunga secured progress, the latter netting the winner after the Bluebirds came from 2-0 down to level through Josh Kay and Niall Canavan.
The Wanderers faced the United youngsters in the next round of the competition. It is a home game that will take place at the Bolton University Stadium.
The game has now been confirmed with a date for Tuesday, December 13. Start time is 7:45 pm
It will take place the same night as the first semi-final of the World Cup. There is a chance England will be in that game, if they finish second in Group B and are in that half of the draw.
One game that needs to be reshuffled is the home game against Forest Green Rovers. Wanderers were due to face the Green Devils on Saturday 7th January, but this game will have to have a new date after the Gloucestershire side booked their place in the FA Cup third round with victory over Alvechurch.
A new date remains to be officially confirmed for the trip to Fratton Park to face Portsmouth, which was scheduled for September but was postponed due to international calls for both squads. The game will now take place in 2023, with spring being a likely date.
