Backward Vision Exercises: How do you improve ball carrier vision?


ORone of the most valuable skills for on the way back is an ball carrier’s visionsince this allows them to move between blocks to get into the right holes.

There are a number of exercises that will help you improve your eyesight when playing with a ball, and in this article we will introduce you to three of them.

What exercises are best for improving the ball carrier’s vision?

diagonal retreat

The first exercise you can do to improve the ball carrier’s vision begins by setting up a square of four cones, each spaced five yards apart.

Walk to the front of the box and back up diagonally to one of the cones. When you see it, put your foot on the ground and accelerate at an angle of 45 degrees.

Keep doing sets of 2 reps and make sure you have a 45 second rest between sets.

zigzag cones

The second exercise you can try involves setting up eight cones in a zigzag pattern, with the cones about a yard apart.

Grab the ball and hold it under your arm before running through the slalom cones.

Work on your vision by keeping your head and eyes up as you determine the position of each cone with your peripheral vision.

Focus on the wall

The third exercise you can do to improve the ball carrier’s vision is to focus on a point on the wall while holding a small ball, such as a squash ball.

Throw the ball from one hand to the other without taking your eyes off the wall or looking down at the ball.

You can then make this exercise more difficult by tossing the ball above eye level to quickly respond to its reappearance in your peripheral vision.
