Despite winning the 2020 NBA Championship with the Lakers, Dennis Schröder didn’t have the best time sharing the spotlight with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The Boston Celtics point guard left the institution after becoming a champion due to his lack of playing time. We hadn’t heard any specifics about his reasoning behind the exit but we have now. Schröder spoke to MassLive about the decision to play for the Boston Celtics and why he feels much better next to another two all-stars: Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Schröder has high hopes for his team and a great feeling for what might come in the future.

“To play with AD and LeBron,” said Schröder to MassLive. “It was an honor to play with them and see every single day how they work and how they do things on the court, off the court, it’s just a blessing. It’s the reason I’m grateful that I’ve seen it but for me, personally, it wasn’t the right fit. That’s the reason I was hesitating a little bit. The way I played is not how Dennis played over his whole career in the NBA so that’s the reason I was like, ‘Okay, I have to see how it’s going next.’ That’s the reason why I even didn’t talk to the organization and said, ‘Listen, we can talk about (the contract) after the season. I want to concentrate during the season to finish it.’ Now, in the situation I’m in, I think I’m 100 percent comfortable so far. You feel the appreciation, you feel the organization is trying to help you, your family, your friends, or whatever. It’s been great so far. I mean, this is all I wanted and I think we can accomplish something big here.”

Does Dennis Schröder have a chance to win titles with Celtics?

Although the Boston Celtics haven’t won championships in a while, there are many reasons to be confident for this team’s future. Starting with Jayson Tatum, who is arguably amongst the most talented players in the entire NBA. With an elegant style of play, Tatum finds himself as one of Dennis Schröder’s greatest allies since he arrived to play for the Boston Celtics. Although this season hasn’t been what the team expected in terms of results, Schröder is definitely finding the protagonist role he didn’t have in the Lakers.
