Carlos Alacraz won the US Open in spectacular fashion and will become the youngest tennis player in history to win a Grand Slam at just 19 years old., overtaking the record set by Australian Lleyton Hewitt in November 2001.
The Spaniard received a lot of congratulations from fans and other players. One of them was from the controversial tennis player Nick Kyrgios.
At the post-match press conference, Alacraz revealed that he had received a direct message on Instagram from the Australian.. After being asked by a journalist if he was going to believe what Nick Kyrgios was saying now, Alcaraz replied: “Honestly, I got [direct message] on Instagram, I saw Nick’s posts, but I didn’t read the whole post, but I read that he said, “I told you so.”
To be honest, I got [direct message] on instagram i saw nick’s posts but i didn’t read the whole post but i read what he said “I told you so”
Before the start of the tournament Kyrgios bet Alcaraz to be the champion in an online poll conducted by Eurosport. Despite having more experienced players who would have been favorites over Alcaraz before the start of the tournament, the Aussie chose Alcaraz as his number one, which explains his Instagram post.
Fellow Spaniard Rafa Nada also took to social media to congratulate his compatriot. He tweeted: “Congratulations @carlosalcaraz on your first Grand Slam and number 1 which was the highlight of your first great season. I’m sure there’s a lot more to come! Great effort @CasperRuud9, very proud of you! good luck today but awesome tournament and season! Continue in the same spirit!”
