Channel 10 is reportedly attempting a ‘youth rebrand’ of The Project after the mass exodus of Carrie Bickmore, Lisa Wilkinson and Peter Helliar from the show.

The likes of Bachelor stars Abbie Chatfield and Laura Byrne, and ABC’s Tony Armstrong, are rumored to star in the current affairs show in a bid to appeal to younger audiences.

Ten is said to be on the hunt for ‘fresh faces’ to join Waleed Aly and Bickmore’s replacement, Sarah Harris, to get the show back to its peak ratings, according to Now To Love.

All three had previously starred on The Project, with Byrne in the dugout last Sunday when Lisa Wilkinson made the shock announcement that she was leaving the show.

Some viewers were convinced Byrne was being groomed for a permanent role amid Wilkinson’s shock resignation.

The former Bachelor star, 36, shared a photo on Instagram of her and Wilkinson on the set of the current affairs show just minutes after the bombshell announcement.

Byrne, who hosts the Life Uncut podcast, wrote in the caption: ‘Lisa you are all class and it has been a career highlight. The greatest privilege of sitting at his desk.

“As a viewer and lover of the show, you will be greatly missed,” he added.

This effusive tribute caught the attention of Wilkinson, whose response hinted that Byrne might receive a promotion in the near future.

‘I loved doing the show with you. I am so excited that you are now a part of The Project family,” Wilkinson wrote.

Wilkinson’s post and response sent Byrne’s 338,000 Instagram followers into a frenzy, with many speculating that she could take on a full-time role.

One fan said she was a “natural” for the role, while another stated that it was Byrne’s time to shine after guest-hosting several episodes.

While replacements for Wilkinson and Helliar have yet to be announced, Sarah Harris was confirmed to replace Bickmore last week.

The 41-year-old TV presenter told Stellar magazine of the appointment: ‘I didn’t see it coming. And I’m still trying to wrap my head around it.

She added: “It’s an amazing opportunity to step into some pretty big shoes and be a part of the next chapter of The Project.

‘I can’t wait to learn more and have fun with Waleed and the team. This is one of the biggest jobs on television and it feels like a once-in-a-lifetime job.’

Meanwhile, Helliar, who resigned from the show this month, told Bickmore on his hit radio show last week that he was happy with his “surprising” decision to leave the show.

“You make the decision, you question yourself for a moment and you know you have to announce it,” he said. ‘[But] doing it last night felt really lovely.’

However, Helliar said he made a crucial mistake that night: “Once I got the first few words out, I thought, ‘Why didn’t I autocue this? Why did I think I could riff this?’

Helliar announced he was leaving the show last Tuesday night, just days after Wilkinson’s resignation.
