84 undocumented migrants were “rescued” from a semi-trailer north of the Texas border with Mexico on Thursday, Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra he said on Twitter.
“A concerned citizen called to report a tractor trailer arrives at the residence … and sees people unloading from the trailer,” Guerra said, adding that authorities responded and “rescued 84 UDIs (undocumented immigrants).”
The location Guerra specifies in his tweet is described by Google as a “census-designated area” known as Olivarez.
He told CNN that ICE Homeland Security Investigations is investigating the incident as a case of people smuggling.
Guerra also told CNN that the people on the 18-wheeler were from Central America and no one at the scene sought medical attention.
